About Us
New Life Volunteering Society (NLVS) is a secular 501(c)(3) nonprofit service organization that serves those in need through community service, education, and health care. NLVS primarily targets its attention on the hungry, the homeless, those with mental and physical disabilities/impairments, and underprivileged children. NLVS makes efforts to provide a healthy and nurturing world for these individuals. Some NLVS activities: - NLVS Tutoring: Volunteer led, evidence based, play-based, free tutoring for K-12 students. - North Chicago Free Clinic: A medical care facility that provides primary and secondary prevention of chronic medical conditions. The clinic also trains future health care professionals by providing a setting for them to learn and practice clinical skills. - NLVS Health Education Program: Preventative health guidance on nutrition, exercise, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, STIs, HIV/AIDS, Narcan, substance abuse, domestic violence, and more. Information is delivered in a variety of settings, such as schools, shelters, and free clinics. - Health Screening Events: Student volunteers in Chicago help set up National Kidney Foundation screening events and work with nephrologists to answer questions brought in by community members. Students have also worked with UI Health organizations like the Community Outreach Intervention Project (COIP) to host health education sessions on topics such as opioid overdose; students were also trained on Narcan's role in response to acute overdose. - Global Health Trips: Pre-med, Pre-health, and Medical students embark on service trips around the globe to get hands on experience in rural/global healthcare and promote self-sustaining local health outcomes. - Food/Hygiene kit donation: NLVS chapters partner with a number of communtiy organizations to donate or prepare food, hygiene supplies, and other essentials for those in need. Our (UWM) chapter has been contributing sandiwches to a local organization, which provides food and medical care during their weekly rounds throughout Milwaukee. - Marathon Support: Students from all chapters of NLVS volunteer together at Chicago races such as the Chicago Marathon or Half-Marathon. NLVS volunteers worked at the hydration stations at First Aid tents, providing assistance to runners.
